The Return of Klaussner: A Legacy Revived in American Furniture
Share
Klaussner Furniture has been a part of the American furniture market for years, widely recognized for having quality craftsmanship and stylish designs. It all started in 1963 as Stuart Furniture, a small operation that quickly gained momentum. By 1972, it had moved to much bigger premises, laying the foundations for possibly even bigger things.
The big change happened in 1979 when German entrepreneur Hans Klaussner acquired the company, renamed it, and gave it a new vision. Over time, Klaussner developed progressive capabilities-acquiring strategic suppliers, delving into case goods, and even setting up a factory for making its own products to keep quality at par.
Through thick and thin, the brand kept its innovation streak, added sleep solutions, added lines for outdoor furniture, and an overall brand identity for "Klaussner Home Furnishings" in 2007, and celebrated 50 years of craftsmanship in 2013.
At its peak in 2009, the company managed to rake in $500 million in sales and laid a testament to its upper hand in the market. Even by 2013, Klaussner was still holding steady at that number and proved how much customers favored their furniture products.
Klaussner’s Shutdown
Klaussner Furniture, after years of active engagement in trade, was thrown into a sudden shutdown owing to financial troubles during the month of August 2023. It didn't forcibly shut its doors on its customers only, but the closure left a void in the furniture industry, as the brand had long been known for its quality craftsmanship and innovation.
However, this wasn’t the end of the story—just a pause before a new chapter began.
Klaussner’s Revival
Earlier in 2024, Hilco Streambank put Klaussner up for sale, and a top furniture retailer named Jennifer Furniture acquired it in the second quarter.

John Garg, CEO of Jennifer OPCO LLC, has planned to reintroduce Klaussner Home Furnishings in the retail market and establish a wholesale division in the first quarter of 2025. Garg added that he tested some unbranded Klaussner furniture pieces in Jennifer Furniture stores, especially during the Black Friday. With an upward projection in sales as a positive sign, Garg got some nine containers of Klaussner upholstery and other collections last November. |
By reestablishing Klaussner in the furniture industry, he wants to anchor a strong presence of this brand.
A note from the current CEO - John
Garg revealed that he was upset when Klaussner shut down in 2023. With several logistical and financial problems piling up, COVID proved to be the last nail in the coffin for the operations. But now Garg is ready to strengthen Klaussner and hit the ground.
With over 70% of his products produced in the US, particularly in North Carolina and Virginia, Garg added that his main motive is to team up with domestic manufacturing and help them contribute to the US economy. By bringing back Klaussner, a native US brand, this is set to bolster the market and support the local economy with a financial boost.
